Gas Mileage Calculator

Gas mileage calculator is a tool used to calculate the rate of fuel of the vehicle consumed per mile, it measures the fuel cost, mileage and how much fuel is used for the trip.

Rate per mile is important for booking loads, after all rate per mile, the more money is flowing into your company.

Rate per mile is gross income. It's just money flowing into your company. But in order to be really successful you really need to think in terms of net income or profit. Rate per income or gross income means absolutely nothing without knowing what your expenses are. In this industry, it's called cost per mile.

Gas Mileage Expalination;

Gas mileage may vary from lower to higher or higher to lower because the fuel or gas rates change from time to time.Average American driver has the fuel average of $3000 per year. An easy way to calculate the gas mileage is to turn the gas meter into zero, the meter known as odometer, reset the counter and fill the gas in the tank to calculate the amount of gas that is filled and will be used. Calculate the difference between this and the next tank refill, the last tank fill divide by the second tank fill.

Fixed vs Variable costs:

Rate per mile is our gross income and cost per mile is expenses, it figures out net income. To calculate the income you should know about fixed costs and variable costs. Fixed costs are those costs that do not change no matter how many miles you run, how many miles you run, or how many  hours you put into your job. They do not change. For example; truck payments, trailer payments, insurance payments, some renewals like BOC3 etc. Those are fixed whether your truck is parked or running like crazy, you have to pay these things no matter what. On the other hand, there are variable costs that do not change depending on how much you run. For example, fuel, maintenance, tolls, scales, washes, taxes, the quarterly taxes, they all depend on registration fees.

City and Motorway Drive:

If the truck or car is travelling in the city, it consumes less  gas/fuel because the vehicle stops at many stops like signals or any traffic in the city. So, it consumes less rate of fuel/gas but if the vehicle is on highway it consumes high rate, because on highways there is specific speed and driver puts the car on high speed rate with less stops which makes the rate higher.

AC & windows open:

When the driver starts the engine of a car and immediately turns on the AC it will cause a high burn of fuel/gas which means AC also affects the rate per mile. So, if a driver does not want to spend more money on gas/fuel he has to use AC for less time. If the windows are opened during the trip the vehicle does not heat up, the engine remains cool and the vehicle will run smoothly. More load will cause more cost of fuel. And far for environment safety windows should be used instead of turning on the AC.

Engine affects:

If the driver drives the vehicle with constant speed and less brakes, sometimes the vehicle engine heats up with the persistent changes in speed. Just like if the engine is in good condition the driver should be sure before going on a trip that the engine is in good condition for long routes. Engines have the oil which needs to  be changed after each 2,3 months for safety otherwise it might be possible that it will burn the vehicle. Air filters should be checked after a few months, to see if they are clogged, debris from outside gets sucked into them a lot of times. Aggressive brakes cause the engine to burn more gas/fuel, so the driver should not be made. Drastic brakes cause the sudden drop of speed which causes high mileage of gas.

Good conditions of tires:

Good conditions of tires affects the rate per miles, if the tire is 0.3$ per PSI, if the load in the vehicle is more the tire interaction between rubber and plate becomes more so the engine consumes more energy to make the tires run which causes higher rate per miles. It is better to check the tires conditions before travelling should remove unnecessary weight from the vehicle for better cost per mile.

Fuel Burning:

Fuel burns more on highways rather than travelling in cities, it is because every engine starts working disproportionately when the speed is 75kmh or 60kmh, the engine consumes more energy and wastes fuel. Whenever the vehicle break is pushed the engine uses fuel, which means each break consumes more fuel than a normal travelling vehicle. A four wheel car consumes more fuel than other vehicles. Gas mileage can be improved by using the recommended motor oil for vehicles. A vehicle's fuel efficiency drops 25% in summers for using AC. Avoid unnecessary AC usage when the car is idle.

How do I calculate mileage manually?

Calculating mileage manually means to calculate the tank capacity, empty the tank and read the odometer then fill the tank to see the mileage. When the second tank will be filled the difference will be calculated for the mileage difference.

Can a dirty engine lower oil mileage?

When the engine's air filler is dirty it gives high cost per mile, if air filler is clean the engine runs smoothly and the rate of fuel/gas is lower.

Do tires affect gas mileage?

Yes, tires do affect gas mileage because wider tires create a larger patch with the road. Increases the friction which requires more engine power, which more fuel is burned.

Does changing motor oil lower gas mileage?

Using the guided motor oil for the engine can lower the gas/fuel mileage, the motor oil plays a major role in running the car on roads. If the oil is not in good quality it will damage the engine parts even the car will become like garbage old stuff. So, driver should use recommended oil for lower mileage.

Does weather affect the mileage of a car?

Yes, cold and hot weather affects the mileage of a car, as cold fuel blends have less energy and engine takes more oil to warm up.
